It’s been said that you’d better toot your own horn because no one else is going to do it for you. Of course, it’s also said that tooting your own horn is unattractive. I’m not sure when these apply and when they don’t. But I do know this, our industry is made up of a lot of people who do great things. People who give back to the community, their people, their home builders association, etc.
I was reminded of the need to ‘toot our own horn’ recently when we had Javi, a representative from Awakening Hope in Guatemala, with us. Awakening Hope is a ministry that connects villages in Guatemala to organizations in the States.
Wilson Lumber ‘adopted’ one of these villages six years ago and we go there three times a year, we sponsor the kids in the school, do some projects, medical stuff—all kinds of things. The work we do there is hard, fun, and incredibly rewarding.
As Javi was here, and now while I am writing, I shamelessly toot our horn because I believe so strongly in the work we do there. Lives are being changed, education is improving immensely, God is working through us.
I’d love to hear what your organization does. Maybe it’s not a ministry in Guatemala, maybe it’s more, maybe you’d like to get something started.
Like I said, I know there are great people doing great things in our industry, where are you on that journey?
Feel free to let me know and next month in this newsletter maybe I can toot your horn for you.
