Aiming for Nothing

What are your plans for 2027?

It's September, time to start budgeting for next year. So, it's time to remember what Zig Ziglar said, ‘If you aim at nothing, you hit it every time.’

So, two things. First, for those of you under 50, Zig Ziglar was a well-known and very well-respected author and speaker on leadership. Awesome dude, look him up.

Second, I understand that no one just loves the budgeting process. But Zig was right, we have to set goals in order to reach goals.

I’m in a business group where we regularly report on whether we are ahead of, on, or behind our target. Some guys will say they're behind, but the truth is they never set a target to begin with.

To me, that’s a bigger problem than being behind. You don’t get in your car in the morning and go wherever it leads. Neither should you go to your office (or construction site) and let it tell you what to do.

Consider this an encouragement. Wherever you are, I assume you don’t have the time or space to set all your business goals for 2027. Perhaps then, you can take a moment and schedule the time to do so. And when you do it, that will be your first goal reached.

What is it for you for 2027? Number of houses built? A new business model in place? Maybe it’s helping a particular charity.

Whatever it is for you, I wish you the best and hope that Wilson Lumber can be a part of it.
