Be Where Your Feet Are

I met with our Corporate Chaplain recently and we were reflecting on what we felt like God was calling us to during this season of life and what may be next. I’ll skip to the end of the discussion and say that for both of us, we felt that we are exactly where we should be right now.

Thinking about the future is productive, but you can’t live there. I think it was Scott O’Neil who first said, ‘be where your feet are’.

The point, one that I need to hear repeatedly, is that if you spend your time worrying about the past, or the future, or even the next thing on your to do list, you cannot be your best at whatever it is you are doing right now.

So true, and a problem for me. One thing about me is, if we are talking, and you do not have my full attention, you can tell. Yikes, but I suppose it’s a good thing. The problem is not that I am not a good liar, it's that you should have my full attention.

One of our Core Values at Wilson Lumber is to treat others the way you want to be treated. Exactly what we mean by that is to treat others with kindness, respect and understanding. That is not possible if we are distracted, worried or fearful.

I agree with Scott O’Neil, at least in concept if not perfectly in practice. Be where your feet are.
