At Wilson Lumber, our role goes beyond supplying materials. We serve as guides, helping builders evaluate options, solve challenges, and execute with confidence from start to finish. A recent custom home with Stillwater and Company in Madison, Alabama is a great example of our partnershipin action.

Why Stillwater Chose Wilson Lumber

When Stillwater and Company broke ground on their latest custom build in Madison, AL, they knew the exterior needed to deliver the right balance of durability, clean lines, and elevated style. Mike Brockman of Stillwater turned to his trusted sales team at Wilson Lumber to help him and his customer evaluate all the options available today.

Our team worked alongside Stillwater to compare the variety of exterior materials, discuss installation, and review long term performance. With guidance from Ryan Clark, Senior Outside Sales at Wilson Lumber, LP SmartSide emerged as the right solution, with siding and trim products built for longevity, flexibility, and great design outcomes.

“I believe in LP SmartSide and used it on a personal project of my own — that’s what I tell my customers. If your sales rep believes in it and uses it, why not you?”
— Ryan Clark, Senior Outside Sales, Wilson Lumber

Why LP SmartSide for This Build?

Stillwater ultimately chose LP SmartSide Lap Siding in a Primed Cedar Texture, paired with Primed Cedar Texture 5/4” x16’ trim in various sizes. This combination created a clean, visually appealing exterior while maintaining structural strength.

With LP’s 5/50 warranty, Wilson Lumber was able to offer added assurance, not just in the product itself, but in the recommendation behind it. Our role was to ensure Stillwater fully understood the benefits, installation process, and long-term value before making the call. Due to our partnership with LP we were able to loop in our rep, Brett Pearce to provide added insight and assurance.

Key reasons SmartSide stood out:

    • A wood-like appearance that elevates curb appeal
    • Easier installation compared to fiber cement, saving time on the jobsite
    • Excellent paint adhesion for a finish that lasts longer

LP prides itself on their SmartSide product. They use 100% sustainably sourced wood fiber to create their engineered wood siding, and as an added bonus, engineered wood offers protection against the elements, hail, moisture, termites, and decay.

Stillwater Homes owner Mike Brockman summed it up perfectly:

“We wanted a durable, clean-lined exterior product that delivers a higher-end look than traditional siding, and LP SmartSide gave us the flexibility and performance we needed for this project.”

To maximize efficiency, Stillwater pre-painted all siding and trim prior to installation. They stacked boards on custom racks they built to allow the boards to fully cure. This approach eliminated the need for a full exterior paint job after installation, reducing cost and limiting post-installation touch-ups to caulking and minor detail work.

That kind of planning is where strong partnerships matter, and it's how Wilson Lumber helps builders think a few steps ahead.

Support from Start to Finish

Behind the scenes, our team worked together with LP’s support staff to ensure product availability, technical clarity, and responsive service. The dedication from our team, to be an active participant in the project, provides peace of mind to the customer at every phase.
