I’m not handy. Yes, I know I own a building materials company.
But don’t throw shade at me. I know that even though most of Wilson Lumber’s customers are builders, many have never actually framed a structure, plumbed a house, ran wires, etc. Stay with me, I’m not being critical at all here.
It’s just that it’s a whole different world than it was 50 years ago, or a hundred. My granddad (who started Wilson Lumber) was very handy, a jack of all trades so to speak. On the farm, if there was a farm problem, he figured it out. My farm is Wilson Lumber, and if there’s a business problem of some sort, I figure it out. Your farm may be building houses or apartment buildings.
In the immortal words of Gandalf the wizard, ‘All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us’. Not that we should collect all our wisdom from The Lord of The Rings, but this is a good one.
These are the times that we were given. And you have been given a time. I suppose I am encouraging you to make the most of it. You are where you are because God put you there, right now. Sure, if it’s not a fit, get out. But that’s probably not the case. Do your best, decide to do something good with the time that you were given.
My Granddad's time included a farm in Winston County and moving to Huntsville to start a lumber company in 1949; he made the most of it. And though I’m sure that if he were still here, he’d have a thing or two to say about me being in my office as much as I am, doing things like writing newsletters, I’m trying to make the most of my time.
How about you? How did you get here? And what can you do to make the most of where you are right now?
