You know what’s boring? Insurance.
I recently spent an all-day meeting on the subject because I am on the Board of our insurance captive. A captive is king of like group insurance for multiple companies, but that’s not the point.
The point is, that though the people are all great and I appreciate the work, I cannot get excited about insurance. Until… we need it.
When you’re negotiating what insurance to pay for, from whom, and how much, it can be tedious and seem meaningless. But when you need it, all of a sudden, what you signed up for matters a lot.
If you’ve been around a while, you know what I’m talking about. When an employee gets injured, when there’s an auto accident, when there is a cyber-attack.
Perhaps though, the point here is not necessarily insurance. But rather having to deal with things you don’t like to deal with.
For me, it’s details. I’m just not a detail guy. But life doesn't give me the option of opting out on dealing with details. I’m the CEO, I’m in an insurance captive, so I have to learn how it works.
How about you? What do you wish you could opt out of? What are you opting out of that you should be spending more energy on? If there’s anything we can do to help, let us know.
